Getting a massage anytime is a pleasurable and relaxing experience for most men and women. However it takes on a brand new meaning for a pregnant woman. What a wonderful idea, especially in the middle of a very hot summer. After the first trimester of pregnancy it may be especially wonderful to treat your new body of two, to a prenatal massage. I interviewed licensed massage therapist, Jennifer L. Barker in Winston Salem to discuss the benefits and restrictions to a professional prenatal massage.

Of course most women’s bodies change tremendously during their pregnancy without a doubt. Many organs and muscles shift and re-position themselves to make room for the new addition(s). These changes sometimes result in the discomfort of many pregnant women in their time of childbearing. Sometimes the pain associated with pregnancy is attributed to muscle strain and pressure. According to Ms. Barker, massage for the pregnant woman goes beyond relaxation. "It can help reduce the pain, increase circulation, increase mobility, range of motion, facilitate the elimination of toxins and assist in a woman's overall well-being."

The cost associated with prenatal massage varies around the area. They range from thirty-two dollars for half an hour and up to one hundred and fifteen dollars for ninety minutes. Check for employee discounts, daily specials and verify your insurance coverage to save money.
